Halloween Quilting Project

This is a quilted table or bed runner.
(It is folded in half)

This is a closer view which shows some of my 'first' hand quilting.
It's much harder than it looks.
It also aggravates the ole carpal tunnel syndrome.

This is the back, so it can be reversed after Halloween.

and the pillowcase to match for my niece, Leah
who has an October birthday....
and (I found out later) a lime-green bedroom
so this matches perfectly.

An Heirloom Style Dress

I made this heirloom quality dress
as a shop sample for the Kid's Closet in Auburn.

The bodice has Swiss embroidery & lace insertion
and 3 tiny pintucks on each side.

Here is a closeup of the sleeve with
Swiss beading, ribbon and lace edging.

This is the hemline with the same Swiss embroidery,
lace insertion, pintucks and lace edging.

These are standard size bath towels that I embroidered for some little friends.
They make great pool towels.

Auburn Dreams

My nephew Laine will be 13 tomorrow.
He asked for an Auburn pillowcase.

I really like how the orange/white stripe trim turned out.
Sweet (Auburn) Dreams!

Boy Things

I got the opportunity to make a few cute shirts for a little "Auburn" boy.
This one will be a cute tailgating shirt.

This one - for baseball season, has his dad's baseball number
and their last name.

And this one - well,  because he has "Auburn" roots!

A Spring Outfit

This is a peasant style top with bloomers.
The pattern used for the top is 'Miss Violet' from The Handmade Dress.
The bloomers pattern is by McCalls.

The top has a small amount of smocking.

My Version of a "Taggie"

Here is my version of a Taggie blanket.
This one measures 15" x 19" not including the ribbons.
There are 16 satin ribbon loops in light pink, hot pink, yellow,
and a white with pastel footprint pattern.
Fabric is minky dot (on both sides).

I have enough of the pink minky to make another one of these. If anyone would like to order one, please email me.  I can use same or different ribbon colors.  I can do a 3-letter monogram as shown or one name.  $20.00 plus shipping costs if applicable.

Getting a Jump on Easter

I just finished this Easter outfit for my great niece, Payton.

The 'chocolate' bunny is a machine applique using brown minky dot.
The bloomers are also made from brown minky dot.
I added a fabric ruffle to the bloomers and the T-shirt sleeves.

An Easter Baby

I thought this would be an appropriate design for a baby
who is due around Easter.

and her name will be Kimberly.

The bibs came from Target and have a velcro closure.

Cowgirls & Indians

This year our Ladies Retreat theme is 'Cowgirls and Indians'.
Andrea wants to be an Indian, so we needed a quick Indian girl costume.
I made a quick t-shaped tunic out of un-bleached sheeting.
(Thanks Lanier-Carter Mill!)
Then I found this beaded trim and brown fleece in my sewing stash.

This is the finished dress, well not really.....
I still have to finish the hem-fringe after she tries it on.

Hope she doesn't go on the war-path!!!

A Special Dress for Payton

From this.....

... to this.
The lace overlay on the dress skirt is from Payton's Mother's wedding gown.

The bodice lace is from Payton's Grandmother's wedding gown.

Closeup of sleeve.

For those of you who may wonder why we would cut up a wedding dress......
The bottom edge of dress was soiled from the outdoor wedding on a rainy summer evening. I used only the part of the dress from the knee area down to the soiled area for Payton's dress. The wedding dress will be hemmed to above the knee and can be worn as a party dress.
And yes.. it still fits the bride mother!

A Quick Purse

I made a quick bag for myself one afternoon last week.
This pre-quilted fabric came from Wal*Mart almost 2 years ago!
One side of the fabric is a floral print and the
other side is a multi-color polka dot.

The handles are gross-grain ribbon, 'cause that's what I had on hand.
I want to find some hot-pink webbing to use for handles.

Giving Back

The Ladies Ministry at my church (Lanett Nazarene Church)
put together gift bags for women who have miscarriages.
They were donated to our local hospital.
Some of the items included are a stuffed animal, a New Testament, and
a booklet of scripture, poems and prayers for mother.
Here is the group of ladies who helped deliver the gift bags.

These are miscarriage wrappers, which are made from
two 12 - 15 inch squares of flannel, with the edges serged together.
I made about 35 of these which were donated to my local hospital
along with the gift bags pictured above.

Miscellaneous Sewing

These jeans had about a 2 inch rip in the seat.
I sewed a scrap of denim on the inside.
Then I used a zig-zag stitch to sew over the rip using matching thread.
You can barely see where the tear was now.

In the last week, I have re-attached a ruffle hem on a little girl's dress.
The dress was new at Christmas. The ruffle came off the first time it was worn.

I also sewed patches on my two nieces' karate uniforms - 4 patches on each top.

Oh, one more thing....
I made a cover for a foam back pillow with a velcro closure
so it can be removed and washed easily.

Do you need any miscellaneous sewing done?   If sew, email me at apmaddux@yahoo.com

             Thanks,
             Angela Maddux
